Two young Extra Mile Club members threw out the first pitch today at Coca Cola Field in honor of their dedication to The Ride For Roswell. Valerie Mueller, 12, and Louis Forsberg, 16, were selected from a group of 125 Extra Mile Club members to win suite tickets to the Bison’s game on Thursday August 13, 2009.
This year marks Valerie’s second year as a Ride participant and her first year as an Extra Mile Club member, raising over $1,200. Valerie chose to ride in honor of herself in the 2009 Ride, her mom Annette states. “This year marks 10 years cancer free from Wilm’s Tumor (Kidney Cancer). She was 20 months when the tumor was discovered and now she is 12 years old!”
Cancer survivor, Louis, has been a dedicated participant in The Ride for 5 years. Louis also chose to ride in honor of himself and is a repeat Extra Mile Club member, having raised $1700 in 2009. In addition to belonging to the Extra Mile Club, Louis is a member of Carly’s Club, the pediatric support program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
The efforts of the Riders and Volunteers helped to make this year the most successful year to date raising $2.2 million. Louis and Valerie are prime examples of the dedicated fundraising and support for the fight against cancer in Western New York.
