INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE RIDE FOR ROSWELL 2013

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one to three+ years experience coordinating fundraising events and/or serving on a volunteer run event planning committee;
  • Excellent inter/intra office communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task in an often fast-paced environment as well as respond quickly, efficiently and effectively to high-demand situations;
  • Familiarity with online fundraising programs desireable;
  • Must be available during The Ride For Roswell – from June 10 – 24, 2013
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

 

General Intern Duties:

  • Work with Ride team on all Ride related tasks and assist with planning and implementation of all in-house special events as needed.
  • Assist Ride team with individual rider and team requests, online fundraising advice, mailings, database support and other related activities when needed. 
  • Serve as an ambassador of Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

 

Campus Planning Intern

Reports To: Lisa Scherer

Primary Duties

  • Assist with the solicitation and help secure all in-kind activities planned for on campus functions. Track activities and communicate with donors.  
  • Recruit campus volunteers, assign positions, enter information and communicate necessary information to volunteers.
  • Assist with organization of event logistics, volunteers and activities needs for Event Check-In leading up to Ride day.
  • Assist with inventory tracking system of all campus supplies and signage.
  • Assist with development of collateral materials, web and email content as pertains to campus planning functions. Promote campus activities on social networking sites.
  • Assigned to assist with Load In/Load Out area with Special Events staff during the week before and day of The Ride.

 Routes Planning Intern

Reports To: Tom Johnston

Primary Duties

  • Assist with the solicitation and help secure all in-kind donors planned for all Route Planning functions. Track activities and communicate with donors. 
  • Recruit route and peloton volunteers, assign positions, enter information and communicate necessary information to volunteers.
  • Assist with organization of route logistics, volunteers and other activities needs for Event Check-In leading up to Ride day. Gather emergency management and safety materials for event.
  • Assist with inventory tracking system of all route supplies (including route guides, riding marshals and rest stops) and signage.
  • Assist with development of collateral materials, web and email content as pertains to Routes Planning functions.
  • Promote route, training and safety stories and activities on social networking sites.
  • Assigned to assist with Rest Stop loading at FedEx on Friday before Ride.
  • Assigned to assist with Peloton logistics on Friday before Ride.
  • Assigned to assist with Start/Finish Line areas with Special Events staff during the week before and day of The Ride.

 

Extra Mile Club Intern

Reports To: Alex Hamberger

Primary Duties

  • Assist with the solicitation and help secure all in-kind donors planned for all Extra Mile Club and Peloton training functions. Track activities and communicate with donors. 
  • Recruit EMC/Peloton, volunteers, assign positions, enter information and communicate necessary information to volunteers.
  • Assist with organization of EMC logistics and Peloton stewardship, volunteers and other activities needs for Event Check-In leading up to Ride day.
  • Assist with inventory tracking system of all EMC & Peloton supplies and signage.
  • Assist with development of collateral materials, web and email content as pertains to Extra Mile Club functions.
  • Promote EMC & Peloton stories and activities on social networking sites.
  • Assigned to assist with Peloton set-up on Thursday/Friday before Ride.
  • Assigned to assist with Peloton/EMC areas with Special Events staff during the week before and day of The Ride.
  • Assist with the marketing plans for the Extra Mile Club and recruitment of Peloton riders.
  • Assist with the development of EMC VIP Party at the Opening Ceremony and other recognition events.

 

Corporate Partners Intern

Reports To: Lisa Scherer

Primary Duties

  • Assist with the solicitation and help secure cash, in-kind and rider incentive prizes for all Corporate Partnership functions. Track activities and communicate with sponsors and donors. 
  • Assist with the tracking and fullfillment of partnership packages and benefits.
  • Assist with organization of Corporate Partners logistics, volunteers and other activities needs for Event Check-In leading up to Ride day.
  • Assist with inventory tracking system of all Corporate Partners supplies and signage.
  • Assist with development of collateral materials, web and email content as pertains to Corporate Partnership functions.
  • Assigned to assist with Corporate & Team Tent set-up on Thursday/Friday before Ride.

 

Stewardship Intern

Reports To: Alex Hamberger

Primary Duties

  • Assist with the stewardship of Team Captains and EMC members.
  • Recruit Team volunteers, assign positions, enter information and communicate necessary information to volunteers.
  • Assist with organization of Team logistics, volunteers and other activities needs for Event Check-In leading up to Ride day.
  • Assist with inventory tracking system of all Team supplies and signage.
  • Assist with development of collateral materials, web and email content as pertains to Stewardship functions.
  • Promote Team stories and activities on social networking sites. Develop internal promotional plan for Team Roswell at RPCI and assist with marketing efforts internally.
  • Assigned to assist with Team Tent set-up on Thursday/Friday before Ride.
  • Assigned to assist with Team areas with Special Events staff during the week before and day of The Ride.

 

Marketing Intern

Reports To: Bridget Burns

Primary Duties

  • Assist with the solicitation and help secure all in-kind donors planned for all marketing functions including print, video, radio, tv and web partnerships. Track activities and communicate with donors. 
  • Recruit Marketing volunteers, assign positions, enter information and communicate necessary information to volunteers.
  • Assist with organization of Marketing logistics, volunteers and other activities needs for Event Check-In leading up to Ride day.
  • Assist with inventory tracking system of all Marketing supplies and signage.
  • Assist with development of collateral materials, web and email content as pertains to the overall general event or highlighting Roswell Park Cancer Institute through The Ride.
  • Promote Why We Ride stories and activities on social networking sites. Assist with the development of the RPCI Plans for The Ride and internal marketing efforts in conjunction with the marketing department.
  • Assigned to assist with All Event Signage set-up on Thursday/Friday before Ride.
  • Assigned to assist with Marketing areas during the week before and day of The Ride. Assist with the photography, videography, social networking, VIPs and stage presentations on Ride day. 
  • Assist with the overall marketing plans for The Ride and public relations efforts including promotion of teams/riders stories to local markets. Assist with updating website content, social networking posts, vodcast posts, e-communication, updating calendar events and developing future marketing plans.
  • Assist with the development of Ride Kick-Off (March), Award Ceremony (October), and Top Teams Party (November) events.

 Opening Ceremony Intern

Reports To: Bridget Burns

Primary Duties

  • Assist with the logistics and activities planned for the Opening Ceremony functions. Track activities and communicate with committee; including members of the procession. 
  • Recruit Opening Ceremony volunteers, assign positions, enter information and communicate necessary information to volunteers.
  • Assist with organization of event logistics, survivors, volunteers and activities needs for Event Check-In leading up to Ride day.
  • Assist with inventory tracking system of all Opening Ceremony supplies and signage.
  • Assist with development of collateral materials, web and email content as pertains to the Opening Ceremony functions. Promote Opening Ceremony activities on social networking sites.
  • Assigned to assist with the Opening Ceremony area with Special Events staff during the week before and day of The Ride.

The Ride For Roswell is an annual celebration of community support for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Its core mission is to understand, prevent and cure cancer.

Bike Safety Tips

Drink water all day & eat before you start. We have 13 rest stops where you can rest, get hydrated & grab a PB&J or banana.

Be sure your helmet is resting flat on your head, not tilted up or down. Also be sure the strap is tight enough.Be sure helmet locks securely, fits well & has no cracks.

A-B-C Check- Be sure your bike is in good condition. Check bike tires for proper Air pressure. Check Brakes. Check Chain.
